Students engage in practical, real-world English speaking and conversation building. They learn to write with accuracy and depth, expanding their vocabulary and improving on their use of grammar mechanics. They go beyond the basic ideas of topics and can discuss main ideas, make comparisons, state advantages and disadvantages, and explain reasons and conditions. They can now speak of past situations with more fluency, giving explanations and reasons for events and situations. Learners at this level will speak not only about personal and everyday situations but also work-related or academic topics as well. They can go beyond discussion into evaluating, contrasting, and categorizing in English. The course will introduce and explore more complex grammatical structures, with an emphasis on choosing the most appropriate tenses and recognizing various expressions in practical situations. The student will write in English using the grammar and vocabulary they have learned. They will learn how to write persuasively and effectively at the basic level using supporting statements and a thesis. By the end of the course, students should have much more confidence in conveying their ideas, including with greater depth, accuracy, and vocabulary usage.
